More than 1,800 runners conquered Kékestető at the 28th Renault E-Tech Kékes Peak Run

On May 18, the Renault E-Tech Kékes Csúcsfutsat, one of the most iconic and most beautiful challenging running races in Hungary, was held for the twenty-eighth time. More than 1,800 runners started in Mátrafüred to conquer the highest point in the country, Kékestető. In addition to the classic asphalt distance, cross-country runners could also test themselves at the Budapest Sports Office race. The stunning natural environment of the Mátra and the overcoming of the difference in altitude provided an unforgettable experience for the participants.

THE 28. Renault E-Tech Blue Peak Run was one of the most amazing events of the Hungarian running season this year. Runners could choose from two distances: the classic, 11.6-kilometer route led from Mátrafüred to Kékestető on asphalt with an elevation gain of 671 meters, while the 11.5-kilometer Trail route wound along wild, romantic forest paths interspersed with exciting slopes and climbs, with the same start and finish. The latter race was also the 17th Hungarian Mountain Running Championship, in which more than 60 domestic mountain runners competed. The event offered a unique challenge and an unparalleled natural experience to all those who dared to conquer the peak. A unique finisher's medal awaited everyone who reached the finish line on Kékestető.

More than 1,800 entries were received for the competition from 410 Hungarian settlements. 68% of the participants were men, 32% were women, 32% of the runners came from Budapest, 17% from Pest County, 9% from Heves County. Counties closer to the location were also active: 17% from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, a total of 12% from Hajdú-Bihar and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok started. Almost 1200 runners chose the Summit Run, and more than 620 runners chose the Trail distance.

The backbone of the field was formed by those aged 41-50 with 37.40%, followed closely by runners aged 26-40 with 31.2%. In addition to the younger generations, the senior age group was also represented in good numbers; in fact, this year even runners of good age took on the distance: the oldest participant in the classic Csúcsfuts is the 81-year-old from Budapest Bertalan Pajor was, while among the ladies, the 71-year-old from Bátmonostor Imre Szerletics proven. The oldest runner of the Trail is the 70-year-old Bordányi Imre Borbelyand the oldest lady is a 65-year-old woman from Hart bei Graz, Austria. Maria Horti volt.

He also participated in the 28th Renault E-Tech Kékes Csúcsfuts, among others. Cseke Lilla, the 2019 female ultrarunner of the year, Summer Sylvia actress, as well as Bertalan Thuróczy biomedical engineer, author of the books “Run, Believe, Live” and “Super Sapiens”. He started the Trail running Joseph Bazsinka Ferenc Liszt Prize-winning tuba artist, Replacement Gaspar Olympic marathon runner, Patrick Juhasztwo-time national mountain running champion, ultrarunner and coach Gábor Szabó, and Irene TiriczShe is also a national cross-country champion.

– The 28th Kékes Csúcsfuts is a special race, not only because, as we jokingly say, no runner in Hungary can reach higher than this, but because every year it provides a unique and unforgettable experience for all those who take on the challenge.” – he said Árpád Kocsis, managing director of the Budapest Sports Office.

– It was uplifting to see so many people step out of their comfort zone and fight together to the top. This race was not only about physical performance, but also about endurance, mental strength and of course community. We are proud that so many people choose this iconic route year after year, it is a joy to see that young, middle-aged and older people participated in conquering the Kékes.

The special feature of the event was the Blue JFK (Jubilee Runners Club) members. There are currently 65 runners in this club who have completed the Kékes Csúcsfuts at least 15 times. Of these, 13 entered this year, for whom this was their 28th successful completion.
